The 16th century “Seven Altars” Monastery, or as it used to be called, the Monastery of the Most Holy Mother of God, is situated beneath magnificent rock cliffs in the heart of the valley of Gabrovnitsa River, and surrounded by the Balkan Mountains. Though not as old as other monasteries in Bulgaria, it is the source of legendary stories about Bulgarian bravery and spirit. If you’re lucky, you may see locals fishing in the river, families having barbeques, or even meet the Abbot of the Monastery.
